What gutter rash is (and isn’t)

Gutter rash is cosmetic damage on the outer lip of an alloy: scrapes, gouges, and missing clear or colour from rubbing a kerb. The wheel still holds air. The car still drives. You hate how it looks.

That is not the same as:

• A bent rim
• A cracked wheel
• Damage that makes the wheel unsafe

Single wheel vs set

Indicative pack ranges (final figure = your photo quote):

• Small $380 fixed — light cosmetic jobs in this band when they fit
• Medium $480–$650 — often where one kerbed alloy sits
• Large $550–$1000 — multiple kerbed wheels or heavier cosmetic sets

One wheel is common. Two or more kerbed lips (tight Shire streets, East parallel parks) usually move you up the band. Quote from photos so you’re not guessing on the footpath.

Why mobile beats a wheel shop drop-off for cosmetic rash

For a lip scrape, pulling a wheel and leaving the car on a jack stand at a workshop is often more hassle than the damage. Mobile cosmetic refurb keeps the car where it is. You still get colour match and seal — without booking a half-day around workshop hours.

That only holds for cosmetic rash. If the rim is bent, cracked, or unsafe, stop. That is not a driveway paint job.

What to send so the quote is accurate

• Daylight that shows the true colour
• The worst section of the lip, close up
• Whether more than one wheel is kerbed
• Any aftermarket or diamond-cut finish notes you know

Diamond-cut and two-tone wheels can sit higher in the indicative bands. The photo quote prices that honestly.
